面倒くさい！ Meaning of mendokusai and How to use Correctly
面倒くさい（めんどうくさい / めんどくさい or mendokusai）is used when you don’t want to do something. The term shows up in a variety of circumstances. Whether it is a tedious project, a long drug out meeting, or a daily annoyance, “面倒くさい” is the perfect word.

Different Forms of the Word Mendokusai
Using just the 面倒 part of 面倒くさい itself often has the same meaning as the full word. For example 面倒な used as an adjective or 面倒だ at the end of a sentence. Though it is still more common to use 面倒くさい than 面倒. Also a side note on pronunciation, 面倒くさい is pronounced めんどくさい shortening the どう to ど most of the time.

Mendokusai can be used for any situation that is complicated, a pain in the neck, annoying, troublesome or any other number of energy-sapping situations.

When you don’t have Time or Energy
Mendokusai is also for normal tasks that are temporarily inconvenient. So if you are busy or are unable to do something for any reason at the moment you can use mendokusai.
今料理するのが面倒くさい
I can’t cook now
I don’t have time to cook now
I am not in the mood for cooking now
When you are just don’t feel like it
You can say めんどくさい to tell the world you are not in the mood. When feeling lazy, or don’t want to get involved with or don’t want to think about whatever it is you can say mendokusai.
取り敢えず全部が面倒くさい
Anyway I don’t feel like doing anything
I am not in the mood for anything
I don’t want to think about anything
Describing Qualities of People and Things
あの人は面倒くさい or 面倒くさい人だ can mean many things. That is a difficult person, a complicated person, high maintenance, hard to handle, or anything. It does not only need to be for people, you can use 面倒くさい for pets, vehicles, furniture, holidays, recipes, or anything else that causing you issues. The possibilities are endless.
