キットカット – Kit Kats in Japan

Package of Kit Kat in Japan

It is a fact, there are all kinds of Kit Kats in Japan. If you live in the United States then you have probably seen the regular milk chocolate flavor, and maybe white chocolate or dark chocolate.

It is not possible to list every single flavor there is in Japan here. Depending on the season, or region you will see different flavors.

大人の甘さ: Kit Kats in Japan have Adult Sweetness

In Japan, you will often see the term adult flavor, adult sweetness, or something along those lines. This usually means less sweet. It may also mean that it is a little bitter, or has some other unique flavor or even alcohol taste to it.

In general Japanese snacks and sweets are not as sweet as American ones.
The sweets in American are usually too sweet for a lot of Japanese people. So, you can actually see that other than the original flavor, all of the current regular flavors are labeled with 大人の甘さ(おとなのあまさ)- adult sweetness.

This is made with Matcha, or grounded green tea leaves.

This flavor is the same as the original but uses twice the Matcha. This makes it more bitter than the original.

ほうじ茶:Houji Tea

Japanese Houji tea flavored Kit Kat

Houji Tea is made by roasting tea leaves, unlike most teas which are steamed. This flavor is made with white chocolate by mixing Houji Tea with the chocolate.

ラズベリー:Raspberry

Raspberry flavored Kit Kat

This flavor is simply raspberry. They make the chocolate by mixing it with freeze-dried Raspberry powder.
