Basically, in order to say the months in Japanese, you need to know how to count in Japanese. If you know how to count in Japanese then you start at the beginning of the year with the first month as number one and the last month as number thirteen.

So, January would be 1, February would be 2, and so on until December which is 12.

How to Count People in Japanese

Once you know which number to use for which month you just need to add the がつ character to the end. This Kanji means moon or month. This means that if you were asked for a literal translation of the months then January would be month one, May would be month five, and so on. Here is a table of all the months in Japanese.
