日付 – How to say the Days of the Month in Japanese
The days of the months in Japanese are for the most part not too difficult. If you know how to count in Japanese then you should have no problem learning the days of the month. There are a few exceptions though. Let’s take a look.

How to say the Days of the Month in Japanese
First, it is easiest to learn the rule to say the days of the month. The rule is that you take a number and then add 日 to the end of it. That’s it! So, let’s say we want to know how to say the 15th of the month. We would take the number for 15 which is 十五 and add 日 to it. You get 十五日 or you can write it 15日. Simple enough right? Well, there are a few days which follow their own rules.
Exceptions to the Rule
When I say there are exceptions if you know the native Japanese words for the numbers or the Kunyomi readings it is not too hard. Most of these exceptions are based on the Kunyomi readings. It is similar to counting people in Japanese where some of the words are unique but based on the Kunyomi readings and the others are straightforward.
So basically the first 10 days of the month and the 20th of the month are exceptions. Other than the first of the month and the 20th the other 9 days are pretty close to the native Japanese numbers. Other than that dates ending in 4 are all similar to the 4th of the month, and there are two ways to say dates ending in a 7 or a 9. Instead of explaining I will show you below. The words in orange are the exceptions and the words with multiple readings:
